• Follow the instructions, fill in your data and the results of your analysis in the given format.
• Any answer you given should be accompanied by a concise explanation of how it was obtained.
• To avoid losing your work, regularly save your document to your computer.
• When you have completed your work: Copy the document into a text editor (e.g., Notepad; but NOT into a word processor or html editor, e.g., NOT into Word or FrontPage). Highlight the contents of the text editor, and copy and paste those contents into the indicated box at the end of this form. Click the Submit button and save your form confirmation.
You have completed the first series of collaborative labs.
In that series you developed some important skills with teamwork, collaboration and communication. By now you have also developed additional lab techniques and insights, as well as an expanded understanding of physics and the standard formulations of motion, energy, momentum, forces and other topics.
You now have a good idea of the function of each member of the team, the designer, the experimenter, the analyzer and the interpreter.
You are also familiar with the items in your lab materials package.
The second series of activities will be spread out over the remainder of the semester. The investigations in this series will be more substantial and extensive than those of the first series, though we will limit the scope to keep the workload reasonable.
Please give a brief statement of three proposals for the second series of investigations.

How does steepness of a ramp affect how fast an object moves across the floor?
How much does fluid friction lessen the amount of force needed?
How is the buoyant force on a floating object relate to the weight of water it displaces?

Discuss your first idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?
****
I may need a meter stick, tape, a flat board, text books to support ramp, stop watch and an object to roll. maybe a toy car or skateboard.
mark of where the board starts and where the end line for the rolling object is (1.5 m away maybe). Make an incline and measure it. Start the rolling object at top of ramp and let it go, timing how long it takes the object to reach the end line. repeat this trail to have a good average time. Then make steeper ramps and have a few trials for each steepness.

Discuss your second idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?
****
Find a spare door hinge or other simple machine. Compare how easy it is to more the machine to how easy it is to move it when oiled. Maybe to measure this see how many times you can work the machine in 25 seconds. Try other types of liquids as well, maybe veg. oil or water. if more simple machines are available try those as well.

Discuss your third idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?
****
Put a large mug or bowl of water on top of a dry tarred paper towel (would need to make sure container and paper towel are in a place where water won't get everywhere, maybe in a dry sink or a bigger bowl). Fill container to the very top with water. Fill a jar with salt so that it will be able to float on the water, find mass. Lower jar into container of water estimate fraction of jar underwater. Once displaced water has been spilled find the total mass of the now wet paper towel and container keeping excess water. get rid of excess water so experiment can be redone. Each time use a different amount of salt. Calculate the buoyant force for each and calculate weight of displaced water in each trial.

Your instructor is trying to gauge the typical time spent by students on these activities. Please answer the following question as accurately as you can, understanding that your answer will be used only for the stated purpose and has no bearing on your grades:
• Approximately how long did it take you to complete this activity?
25 minutes

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me. I'm looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

All of your ideas are good, but the first two are more relevant to first-semester topic. The third looks very good.

You should have received notification about an online evaluation for your
course. Just in case, I'm including a copy of the link.
You are encouraged but not required to fill out the form (I'll never know in any
case who has and has not filled it out). Your feedback will be very
valuable to me in the ongoing process of improving your course.
I will be including this message at the end of my responses on most days for the
next week, so you will probably see it more than once. However, it will
only be possible for you to fill out the form once. So you can ignore
redundant requests.
