A wad of paper is dropped from a second-story balcony and falls through still air to the ground.

• As it speeds up, what happens to the air resistance it encounters?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

As it speeds up, so does the magnitude of the air resistance increase. The greater its velocity, the greater impact/the more influence is felt by the air resistance.

• What happens to the net force acting on it?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

Thus, the net force acting on the ball increases. The gravitational pull is constant and the air resistance is increasing, as does the velocity due to gravity.

#$&*

• What happens to its acceleration?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

It's acceleration due to gravity is constant. The object is falling at 9.8 m/s/s. However, with air resistance, the acceleration is slightly hampered, as it is opposing the direction of motion, which is downward.

#$&*

• If it dropped from a much higher point, what would happen to the net force and the acceleration?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

The higher the initial height of the object, the greater the net force the object experiences and the longer it accelerates due to gravity. This is because the object has greater gravitational potential energy.
