ball down ramp

Your 'ball down ramp' report has been received. Scroll down through the document to see any comments I might have inserted, and my final comment at the end.

** Your general comment **

Ive done a VERY similar experiment as this one in my Physics class at Abingdon Highschool.

** Will a steeper ramp give greater or lesser time? **

The steeper the slope, the less the time interval will be to travel the length of the ramp.

** As slopes increases will time intervals increase, decrease or show no pattern? **

Decreasing

This is the time it takes a steel ball to travel 28cm on a ramp that is about 2cm thick. I released the ball 28cm from the bottom, running a timer, and stoped the timer when it hit a steel plate at the bottom.

This is the time it takes a steel ball to travel 28cm on a ramp that is about 3cm thick. I released the ball 28cm from the bottom, running a timer, and stoped the timer when it hit a steel plate at the bottom.

** Do your results support or fail to support your hypothesis about increasing or decreasing times? **

No, each time the slope gets steeper there is an obvious decrease in the amount of time it takes the ball to traverse the ramp.

** How do you think ave velocity is related to slope? **

I would venture to say that the increase in velocity is directly proportional with the higher the slope of the ramp. If the ramp is hightened at equal intervals, I believe the velocity will increase at equal intervals in a perfect system.

** Speculate on why ave velocity changes with slope. **

The main reason the velocity is higher with a higher ramp is the fact there is more potential energy stored the higher the distance between the top and bottom of a system.

** How could you test your speculations? **

Increase the height thus increasing potential energy and watch velocity increase.

** **

45minutes.
