A steel ball rolls down a ramp and collides with a marble, as in the video. The marble is slightly smaller and quite a bit less massive than the ball.
*
If they both experience the same force, which will have the greater acceleration?
answer/question/discussion: Because of the steel ball's greater mass, the KE that it produces as it rolls down the ramp will be transfered to the smaller marble, which will in-turn accelerate the marble very quickly.
Good, but the key is not kinetic energy, which is not conserved in this collision (some of the energy goes to heat and sound). Energy is not useful for analyzing this collision.
The key is that the forces are equal and opposite, so that the less massive object experiences the greater magnitude of acceleration.
*
If the forces were exerted during identical time intervals, which would have the greater change in velocity?
answer/question/discussion: Both the steel ball and the marble should experience identical change's in velocity. ( I assume that you are referring to a head-on collision between the objects)
Since time intervals are identical the object with the greater acceleration will experience the greater change in velocity.
