Scans and emails are very cumbersome, very time consuming to deal with. There is no way to efficiently insert detailed and extensive comments, and the resulting documents would be very time-consuming to post. The time it would take to deal with all this would be taken away from the time I spend reviewing these documents and answering questions, and the tradeoff would be to the disadvantage of students.
