You have completed the first series of collaborative labs.
In that series you developed some important skills with teamwork, collaboration and communication. By now you have also developed additional lab techniques and insights, as well as an expanded understanding of physics and the standard formulations of motion, energy, momentum, forces and other topics.
You now have a good idea of the function of each member of the team, the designer, the experimenter, the analyzer and the interpreter.
You are also familiar with the items in your lab materials package.
The second series of activities will be spread out over the remainder of the semester. The investigations in this series will be more substantial and extensive than those of the first series, though we will limit the scope to keep the workload reasonable.
Please give a brief statement of three proposals for the second series of investigations, relevant to the topics of the labs you have performed and/or the material covered so far in the course. It should be possible to conduct your proposed investigations using the materials in the lab package, and/or common items you can expect your team members to have.
****Using the small and large steel balls, roll one down a ramp to hit the other at the end of the ramp and calculate the momentum factors before and after the collision.
Using a pendulum using a bead or washer to calculate the centripetal force and acceleration.
Calculate the tension in an object string or rubber band holding a objects with recordable masses.

Discuss your first idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?
****By setting up a ramp on a small incline, where the height is almost negligable, placing one of the steel balls at the end of the ramp on a small object to keep in stationary until contact with the other ball that will roll down the ramp to hit the ball.
Items needed would be the ramp (the 30 cm ramp preferably), the two steel balls (one large and the other small), timer program, small object to keep ball at the end stationary, and a small object(s) to slightly incline the ramp.

****I am not sure how well this experiment would work, but one could use a pendulum (of small mass) to spin in a circle whether once or multiple times to find the centripetal force components.
Materials needed would be the pendulum (a string attached to a small object), the timer program, and a ruler.

****By attaching an object that has a considerable mass to a string that is suspended by varaible cm, attached to another string pulling in the x axis direction, calculate the tension and the x and y components.
Materials needed would be string (two), an object to suspend that has a recordable mass, a ruler, and a weighing device.
