The problem:

A ball is moving at 10 cm/s when clock time is 4 seconds, and at 40 cm/s when clock time is 9 seconds.

Sketch a v vs. t graph and represent these two events by the points (4 sec, 10 cm/s) and (9 s, 40 cm/s).

answer/question/discussion: the graph is increasing at an increasing rate

you can tell whether a graph is increasing or decreasing, on the average, between two points, but from two points you can't tell anything about whether the rate of increase or decrease is increasing, decreasing or constant

Sketch a straight line segment between these points.

answer/question/discussion: the line segment is increasing to the right

What are the rise, run and slope of this segment?

answer/question/discussion: rise is 30, the run is 5, the slope is 6

What is the area of the graph beneath this segment?

answer/question/discussion: `dv/`dt = 40 - 10 / 9-4= 6, in previous notes it was said that `dv/`dt is equal to the area under the trapezoid

The rise, run and slope all have units and meanings. Units need to be included with all quantities that have units.
