Good work overall but be sure to see my notes. It would be a good idea to work out the simplification for #1, as indicated in my note there, and send it to me.
asst. 6
quiz 1, prob. 5
Determine the average rate of change of the function y(t) = .5 t 2 + -36 t
-19 between x and x + Dx
y'(t)=2 t -36
y ' (t) = 2 * .5 * t - 36 = t - 36.
This is the instantaneous rate-of-change function, giving you the precise rate at every t. It doesn't give you an average rate on an interval, however.
The average rate of change is `dy / `dt = ( y(x + `dx) - y(x) ) / `dx = (.5 (x + `dx)^2 - 36 ( x + `dx) - 19 - ( .5 x^2 - 36 x - 19) ) / `dx, which needs to be simplified.
$ 1260 growth rate=.03 or 3%
growth factor is 1.03
growth function is P(t) =1260(1.03^t)
quiz 2, prob. 4
"Sketch and completely label a trapezoidal approximation graph for the
function y = x 2/ 4 + 1, for x = 0 to 1.8 by increments of .6." um, do i do
this on paper and turn it into you?
