The problem:

A ball accelerates at 8 cm/s^2 for 3 seconds, starting with velocity 12 cm/s.

• What will be its velocity after the 3 seconds has elapsed?

Vf = ‘dv +v0, ‘dv = 8cm/s^2 * 3s = 24m/s. vf = 24m/s + 12cm/s = 36cm/s

answer/question/discussion:

• Assuming that acceleration is constant, what will be its average velocity during this interval?

vAve = (v0+vf)/2 = (12cm/s + 36cm/s)/2 = 24cm/s

answer/question/discussion:

• How far will it travel during this interval?

‘ds = vAve * ‘dt = 24cm/s * 3s = 72cm

answer/question/discussion:
