For each situation state which of the five quantities v0, vf, `ds, `dt and a are given, and give the value of each.

• A ball accelerates uniformly from 10 cm/s to 20 cm/s while traveling 45 cm.

This information gives the initial (10cm/s) and final(20cm/s) velocities and the change in distance(45cm)

The last quantity would be change in position. Distance is an absolute value while position is a signed quantity, so change in distance and change in position could be very different quantities.

answer/question/discussion:

• A ball accelerates uniformly at 10 cm/s^2 for 3 seconds, and at the end of this interval is moving at 50 cm/s.

This information gives the change in time(3s) and final velocity(50cm/s)

also the acceleration

answer/question/discussion:

• A ball travels 30 cm along an incline, starting from rest, while accelerating at 20 cm/s^2.

This information gives the change in distance(30cm), the initial velocity(0cm/s)

also the acceleration

answer/question/discussion:

Then for each situation answer the following:

• Is it possible from this information to directly determine vAve?

Yes, Yes,no the last problem requires an equation to find the vAve

answer/question/discussion:

• Is it possible to directly determine `dv?

Yes,no, no the first one is the only that provides the information to directly determine ‘dv.

Would like to have feedback. Thanks, Joshua

Good, but you failed to identify the acceleration when it was among the given quantities.
