ball down ramp

Your 'ball down ramp' report has been received. Scroll down through the document to see any comments I might have inserted, and my final comment at the end.

** Your general comment **

** Will a steeper ramp give greater or lesser time? **

The time required to roll down the steepest ramp should be the least of the three.

** As slopes increases will time intervals increase, decrease or show no pattern? **

the time intervals should be decreasing from greatest to least.

** Your report of 5 trials each way for 1 domino **

For the first five numbers I had the ramp oriented so the ball would roll from left to right and to right to left on the second five. I marked a spot on the ramp 3cm from the edge and placed the domino there then I moved the domino and started the timer at the same time and stoped the timer when the ball hit the bracket at the other end.

** Your report of 5 trials each way for 2 dominoes **

I was trying to concentrate on getting the timing right so I wasn't really thinking about anything.

The first five numbers the ball is rolling from left to right the second five the ball is rolling from right to left.

** Do your results support or fail to support your hypothesis about increasing or decreasing times? **

Yes. The the first slope with one domino had the longest times. The slope with two dominoes had times in the middle and the slope with three dominoes had the shortest times.

** How do you think ave velocity is related to slope? **

The steeper the slope of the ball the faster the average velocity of the ball will be. In the results the ball was traveling the same amount of distance every time but as the ramp got steeper it covered that distance in less time which means its average velocity increased.

** Speculate on why ave velocity changes with slope. **

While the overall distance has stayed the same the horizantal distance it has to cover has decreased.

** How could you test your speculations? **

I don't know, I don't really have a lot of faith in my speculation.
