Questions about material.

I don't understand what I need to actually turn in under what is listed in the assignments page. Do I need to turn everything in or are such activities as the assigned problems in the book solely for practice? Essentially, I don't actually know what is meant to be graded and what is for my own preparation for tests/quizzes. Also I have a question about certain lab material that we are supposed to rent such as sensors etc. How do I go about renting those materials, and how do I know in advance what I am going to need for a particular lab so that I don't get behind because I am waiting for materials to be shipped to me? Are these rentals handled through the bookstore or is there some other way?

@&

Lab materials are handled by the bookstore. Give them a call.

Rentals aren't yet ready, and aren't used until the second half of the course. So you won't need to rent anything for the first half of the course. You will need to purchase the lab materials package.

There was an unexpected delay with the materials (which are now available), so If an experiment calls for materials you don't yet have you can defer it.

You will turn in what you are specifically asked to turn in, which for a typical assignmet will be the Query and the labs. If anything else is to be submitted, you will be specifically instructed to submit it. If not, then it's for your own preparation.

Where is the instruction?

I don't really understand how this course is set up. I am trying to figure out how to complete assignment two, but I don't really see how it is possible to complete this assignment when I am asked to complete problems with no prior instruction. Are the physics dvd's supposed to contains some kind of lecture material or am I supposed to read certain chapters in the book? If the prior, this is not stated anywhere. If the latter, how am I supposed to know which chapters/ which sections are relevant? The setup of this class is very confusing and unorganized, and it would be helpful to have some further clarification. Thank you for your patience. I understand that I am supposed to complete assignments 2-5 this week but all that I have to go by is a table listing the necessary assignments and no further instruction beyond that point.

The Introductory Problem Sets stand on their own and are not intended to require previous instruction. Under the heading 'how to complete assignments', just above the Assignments Table, an explanation is given for each heading. The explanation give for the Introductory Problem Sets is

'(worked problems with explanations, to be completely mastered as a rudimentary core of understanding)'.

Check out the information under How to Complete Assignments. You might still have questions, but you will have more specific information on which to base them.

The way to understand how the assignments work is just to do the assignments. In my experience it's a waste of time to explain something unfamiliar to someone when you can give them instructions by which they can actually do it.
