Assignment 1

See also Class Notes #01 and #02.

This means to click on the link (the words Class Notes in the preceding sentence are a link), locate Class Notes 1 and 2 and read them. However the video links aren't active on that version. So you should:

Go to your CD or DVD and run it according to instructions given in the Orientation (it's CD #2; see the link in Prelim Assignments entitled CD Contents). You can locate Class Notes #01 and #02 there; and the video links work.

Run and submit using the Submit Work form the SEND**** file created by the q_a_ program for Assignment 1.

Be sure you have downloaded the q_a_ program from the Supervised Study page, under Course Documents, Downloads, Precalculus I. Its title is q_a_pc1_1_15, and it applies to the first 15 assignments in your course. Another q_a_ for the remaining assignments will be posted before you have completed Assignment 15.

Distance Students: Note that CD's contain class notes with video clips, starting with CD #2.

links in asst 1

The links are class notes; Introduction to Central Themes; Examples; Introductory Flow Experiment; and Randomized Problems.

description of content of each link

Class notes takes you to a page where you can access class notes which are broken down into groups of assignments, the first being assignments 0-6. Clicking on the link opens a page which gives numbered assignments, the first of which is the depth vs. clock time model.

Introduction to Central Themes consists 3 sections; central concepts, What do we need to know about mathematics, and Using mathematics to solve real problems. The basic flow experiment give instructions for carrying out a depth vs. time flow experiment and includes photographs and a graph to complete. Clicking on randomized problems takes you to a page where you can click on Precalculus 1 to access simulated data for the flow experiment.

instructions for qa and/or query

Run and submit using the Submit Work form the SEND**** file created by the q_a_ program for Assignment Be sure you have downloaded the q_a_ program from the Supervised Study page, under Course Documents, Downloads, Precalculus I. Its title is q_a_pc1_1_15, and it applies to the first 15 assignments in your course. Another q_a_ for the remaining assignments will be posted before you have completed Assignment 15.

qa and query filenames for asst 1

I don't know how to answer this. When I look under My Computer at all the program files I've downloaded, none of the q_a_ files have mthphy in them...I only find this at c:\vhmthphy.

instr for text assts

Suggested Review: Text Sections 1.1 and 1.2, if necessary

work text probs on paper; submit thru query after completing asst

OK

what must be and what may be submitted

The q_a_ program should be run first, all assignments completed, and the query last. All work should be copied and pasted to a submit work form with no handwritten work or copies of handwritten work.

include everything in one document

All work should be shown for randomized problems or quizzes along with the actual problem or question.

use paper

Notes are necessary to be able to refer back to problems or solutions from previous questions. A notebook is needed in order to efficiently work through q_a_ assignments.

Your responses have been reviewed and everything looks good.

Please let me know if you have any questions related to this orientation assignment.
