In reviewing for Test 2, the question below was part of the Review Practice Test and it refers to using DERIVE. I haven't used DERIVE in this class so far as I could work it out another way. Can you give me some guidance on DERIVE or another way to work this problem? Just by plotting the points, I know that it's not linear and not a complete parabola so I think it is an exponential fit but not sure.
2. Using DERIVE, find the best fit to the following data, using first a linear fit, then a quadratic fit, then a cubic fit, then a fourth-degree polynomial fit: [ [3, 1], [5, 1.8], [7, 4.3], [9, 7.6], [11, 16.4] ]. Give an argument for and against each fit as opposed to the others, then decide which fit is most likely to tell you how the data is really behaving
