Here is the second collaborative lab series. I wasn't feeling very creative today. Sorry professor.

Collaborative lab series II

You have completed the first series of collaborative labs.

In that series you developed some important skills with teamwork, collaboration and communication. By now you have also developed additional lab techniques and insights, as well as an expanded understanding of physics and the standard formulations of motion, energy, momentum, forces and other topics.

You now have a good idea of the function of each member of the team, the designer, the experimenter, the analyzer and the interpreter.

You are also familiar with the items in your lab materials package.

The second series of activities will be spread out over the remainder of the semester. The investigations in this series will be more substantial and extensive than those of the first series, though we will limit the scope to keep the workload reasonable.

Please give a brief statement of three proposals for the second series of investigations, relevant to the topics of the labs you have performed and/or the material covered so far in the course. It should be possible to conduct your proposed investigations using the materials in the lab package, and/or common items you can expect your team members to have.

Discuss your first idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?

****

First Idea:

Determine where two candles need to be placed in front of a lens for the candles to reflect two separate dots with clear focal points onto the middle of the screen. The lens or the candle may need to be raised or lowered to find this point on the screen. The performer of the experiment will need two tealight candles, the lenses provided with our labkits, and a screen.

Discuss your second idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?

****

Second idea:

Determine where two candles need to be placed in front of a lens for the candles to reflect one single dot or two dots with close approximation on the screen. Measurements will need to be taken from the source to the lens and from the lens to the screen. The performer of the experiment will need two tealight candles, the lenses provided with our labkits, and a screen.

Discuss your third idea. How do you think it might be tested? What sort of items do you think might be required? How do you think your idea might be tested?

****

Third idea:

Using a laser pointer, all three lenses(separately) and a screen. The lenses should be marked with 2 dots that were previously used in the vertical position. The alignment will be changed from a vertical position to a horizontal position. Using the laser, point the laser through the left and then the right dot while trying to achieve the same vertical height on the book. The performer will then move backward or forward to see if the laser dot projected onto the screen can move closer to the midline of the book. Measure the distance of the light source to the lens for the clearest images projected on the screen.

Your instructor is trying to gauge the typical time spent by students on these activities. Please answer the following question as accurately as you can, understanding that your answer will be used only for the stated purpose and has no bearing on your grades:

• Approximately how long did it take you to complete this activity?

Less than one hour. I like creative thinking activities, unfortunately I have been sick( stomach bug) for the past two days so my answers are not nearly as creative as I would like for them to be.

@&

Your ideas aren't bad.

We might not actually do the second collaborative lab, as we haven't yet done the first. However I do want ideas for the second lab, so thanks for submitting them.

I hope you're over the stomach bug. I know it's no fun.
