An automobile rolls 10 meters down a constant incline with slope .05 in 8 seconds, starting from rest. The same automobile requires 5 seconds to roll the same distance down an incline with slope .10, again starting from rest.
• At what average rate is the automobile's acceleration changing with respect to the slope of the incline?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
An object will cover the same distance in a shorter time period if it is traveling down a steeper ramp. This is the same case we have here. The incline with a slope of .05 gives us an average acceleration of 1.25 m/s. We get this from ‘dv/’dt. Our ‘dv= 10 m and our ‘dt = 8 seconds.
Our incline with the slope .10 gives us an average acceleration of 2m/s. We get this from ‘dv/’dt. Our ‘dv= 10 m and our ‘dt= 5 seconds.
You've found average velocities, but not accelerations.
