That question asks you to test for symmetry.

There are three types of symmetry to test for:

Symmetry with respect to the y axis is tested by substituting -x for x and seeing if the equation changes.

Symmetry with respect to the x axis is tested by substituting -y for y and seeing if the equation changes.

Symmetry with respect to the origin is tested by substituting -x for x and -y for y and seeing if anything changes.

How would you graph the function f(x)= 12/13 * x^2

You would start with the function y = x^2, with its basic points (-1, 1), (0, 0) and (1, 1).

Multiplying the values x^2 by 12/13 moves all point a bit closer to the x axis. The points (-1, 1) and (1, 1) become (-1, 12/13) and (1, 12/13). The point (0, 0) remains (0, 0), since 12/13 * 0 = 0.

The resulting graph is a parabola, just as the graph of y = x^2 is a parabola, but it's a little fatter, with all points a bit closer to the x axis.
