The green ray represents velocity and the blue ray respresents acceleration. The acceleration vector is longer when you are just starting out and speeding up or at the
end of the path and slowing down. The velocity vector is longest at you move across the
screen, especially at a steady speed. They have the same direction when you are
accelerating. Then have different directions when you are slowing down, stopping or
turning around.
Repeat but move the dot as quickly as possible from left to right. Describe the
behaviors of the two vectors. The blue starts out long, then the green takes over and
keeps getting longer. As you slow and stop, the blue goes backward and the green goes
in the direction you are moving the dot.
In an arc, the blue is short and the green is longer. The green shortens as you
approach the end of the path.
In a circular motion, the green generally stays long and the blue generally stays
shorter. The blue points inward, or toward the middle, and the green points outward, or
toward the edges. The change as you speed up the circular path is that both lines get
longer but they still maintain the same inward/outward orientation. "
