Professor Smith,
I took the final today, and I wanted to comment of two questions that were on my test. I was unable to fully answer them.
One equation asked for the centripetal Force( Centripetal F = mass * centripetal acceleration) on an automobile, but no mass was ever given in the equation to be able to calculate it. I wrote the equation down with the values in it, as well as drew a diagram to explain it.
There should have been a mass, so you're off the hook in the sense that if your score on the problem doesn't help your grade it will be omitted. However if you correctly did as you say, you should get full credit, in which case it will of course be counted.
Also, another equation had a variable slope hill, and wanted to know the velocity obtained by rolling down the second half. However, with the given velocity obtained down the first half, it was calculated to be impossible as an object could not possibly reach that acceleration down the entire hill according to the given height. For both equations, I explained everything and answered what I could. I just wanted you to be aware.
What you describe is possible, though if so it's not a common error on the test.
Now, I understand that I may have forgoten or missed something; but to my knowledge I do not think I did. Either way, I hope I did well. Please email me my grade. Thank you.
