A steel ball rolls down a ramp and collides with a marble, as in the video. The marble is slightly smaller and quite a bit less massive

than the ball.

If they both experience the same force, which will have the greater acceleration?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

If I said the the steel ball has a mass of 9kg at a given force of 20N then a=f/m so 20/9=2.22m/s^2

the marbel has a force of 20n, since they both experience the same force, at a mass of 6kg a=f/m= 20/6= 3.33m/s^2

So, the marble has the greater acceleration than the steel ball, I thinkthis may be die to the lesser mass

If the forces were exerted during identical time intervals, which would have the greater change in velocity?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

The marble would have the greater acceleration than the steel ball.

This is so but acceleration isn't the same thing as change in velocity. Time interval is also a factor when finding change in velocity.

The key here is that both forces act for the same time interval, and since the time interval is the same the object with the greater force will experience the greater change in velocity.
