Question about Lab Materials

In the lab, Rotating Straw, Opposing Rubber Bands, it asks for You have a metal 'strap' (a thin strap of framing metal, a foot long and an inch or two wide). I don't have a metal 'strap.'

Also, in the Pearl Pendulum lab, I don't have a bracket to use.

I don't understand how I am supposed to do the labs without the materials.

Is there a way I can do these labs using other materials?
