Newtons Cradle Lab. In this lab. we were using the larger newtons cradle, a metal ramp of length 30 cm. a couple of dominoes. and one large marble.

we first positioned the ramp in line with the newtons cradle steel balls, and gave the ramp a slope of 8.3%. ( 2.5cm hight from table, 30cm long ramp )

with the newtons cradle balls at rest, we positioned the large marble on the ramp, and resting on the last cradle ball. now we experement with the displacement of the marble, with respect to how far the first cradle ball was pulled back

Here we have a chart to represent the data.

Pull Back Length (cm) | displacement of marble (cm)

6 5

7.7 10

9 20

10 25

11 29

12 off ramp ( over 30cm)"

Good.

Additional questions:

Does it appear that the PE gain of the second ball is proportional to the pullback of the ball in the Newton's Cradle?

Is the PE loss of the ball in the Newton's Cradle proportional to the pullback?

Do you conclude that the PE gain of the second ball is proportional to the PE loss of the ball in the Newton's Cradle?

How do you account for the energy behavior of this system?
