1.explain why the frequency of the sound observed when the buzzer moves toward you is greater than that of the stationary buzzer and why this frequency is greater than that observed when the buzzer is moving away from you- The frequency is higher and arrives sooner because the pulses emitted by the approaching source was recived in a shorter time trather then the last pukse which is closer to the source.
2. what is a decibel?
-dB = 10 log( I / I0 ), where I= intensity I0= hearing threshold intensity.
3.what is the difference between the node-antinode structure of the harmonics a standing wave in a string and in an organ pipe closed at one end
-the difference is that when one has a string the nodes at both ends but with an organ pipe with one closed end there is a node at one end and a antinode at the other.
4.what are beats
-they are the result of when two sounds are close in frequency
Good answers overall. Note that a beat occurs every time the two waves 'shift' in and out of synch.
