Pressure

course PHY 232

Good report. Succint and to the point, and pretty accurate results also.

In this experiment, we try to find the measure of 1 atm in pascals. The set up has a soda bottle, 1/5 full of soda, with a three holed stopper in the top, one tube goes from the soda up, and when the bottle is squeezed the soda travels up the tube. The second tube has alcohol trapping a certain portion of air making an air chamber. then third hole in the stopper is just blocked off, completing a self-contained system. The length of the air chamber at rest is 25cm, when pressure is added to the system and the soda is at a height of 50 cm the length of the air chamber is We can find the ratio of the pressures and the actual pressure difference, first the ratio of the pressures. P1V1 = P2V2 => P2/P1 = V1/V2 = 25/23.95 = 1.044 Which implies that P2 is 1.044 times P1, or since P1 is 1 atm, P2 is 1.044 atm We can find the change of pressure by P=pgh, p= 1000kg/m³ P= (1000)(9.8)(.5)= 4900 N/m² so we know .044 atm = 4900 N/m², so 4900/.044 = 111363.63 N/m² "
