Assignment 2 for physics 202 deals with Ch. 13 in the text, mainly thermometers and changes in temperature due to thermal equilibrium. the problem set and open query deal with problems related to heat transfer and thermal energy flow. I'm confused because the information being tested isnt addressed until Assignment 4. i really want to get the structure of these assignments understood so i stop killing so much time trying to figure it out. I'm stressed with the information because i've been spending a lot of time doing nothing but organizing the material and trying to wrap formatting around my head. i read all of chapter 13, did the assigned book problems, but did not feel as if it prepared me to complete the open query or the problem sets. what should i do?
Most students find it difficult to read about the physics before they have experienced it, especially when the reading level of the text is relatively high. Students typically find it much easier to read and understand the text if they have prior experience of the topics.
Topics are typically addressed in the Introductory Problem Sets and in experiments before they are assigned in the text. The Introductory Problem Sets are designed to 'stand alone' and orient students to some core concepts and procedures before they are developed in the text. For the typical student, the most profitable use of the text is to provide a final coherent summary, and an extension of topics previously encountered.
Different students bring a variety of backgrounds and learning styles to the course. The ordering of assignments is aimed at what I believe to be the typical student, but will not be ideal for all students. The assignments as given can be taken as a suggested order, and you are free to complete the tasks in another order if you prefer.
For example you may prefer to read a few assignments ahead in the text, if you find that this is a more profitable approach for you.
