measuring atmospheric pressure

#$&*

There is a portion of water that extends into the tube, i have adjusted the system so that portion of water in the tube will only increase when the bottle is squeezed, but the water level in the bottle has to be small enough so that more water will not enter the tube and disrupt the air column.

The reduced rulers were not present in my lab package and i am using a standard tape measure that home depot gave me.

@&

The rulers should have been in the initial materials package. In any case the tape measure is OK.

The air column is about 10cm

From the point where the water moves no further on its own in the tube is 0, from here to the capped end is about 10cm"

THe first mark is about 20cm from the water line in the bottle.

The air column is about 6cm

I squeezed the bottle until the water went up the tube and to the 1st mark. At this point the air column in my pressure meter went from the 0cm mark, to the 2cm mark, on average, shortening the air column"

The water in the vertical tube will not go further then the 3rd mark. My pressure meter here is at its max. about 45 minutes

You would get better results from a longer air column, but with careful measurements a 6 cm column can give you usable information.
