`q001. Explain the difference between x - 2 / x + 4 and (x - 2) / (x + 4). The evaluate each expression for x = 2.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

first the ( ) come first in order operation and so in the first one the division comes first and so if you do the first problem with x=2

-2/2 which -1 and so then you would have 2- 1+4 and thats easy arithmetic and so 2-1=1,1+4=5 and thats the answer to the first one, the second you would plug the numbers in and do ( ) first and then divide so (2-2)=0 and (2+4)=6 so then that would be 0/6 which is just 0

`q003. What is the numerator of the fraction in the expression x - 3 / [ (2x-5)^2 * 3x + 1 ] - 2 + 7x? What is the denominator? What do you get when you evaluate the expression for x = 2?

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

numerator is 3 because no ( ) around the x-

denominator is [(2x-5)^2*3x+1] because its under the division bar in brackets

first off got to do the brackets and within the brackets the first thing is ( ) so 2*2-5=-1 and so then its the exponent which would be -1^2 which is -1*-1= 1 and so next up is the multiplication in the brackets so that means 1*3*2=6 amd so add 1 to that and the brackets are done so the equation would be 2-3/7-2+7*2, so next is the division and multiplication and the division would just be 3/7 and im going to keep it like that and multiplay 7*2=14 and the new equation looks like this 2-3/7-2+14 and then so you just go through the rest, and have to change to do the addition and subtraction and so im going to leave the fraction and minus sign by itsefl a minute soits goin to be -3/7+2-2+14=-3/7+14 and the new equation is -3/7+14 change 14 to fraction so i can add them together. 98/7-3/7=95/7 so the answer is 95/7

*&*& Standard mathematics notation is easier to see. On the other hand it's very important to understand order of operations, and students do get used to this way of doing it.

You should of course write everything out in standard notation when you work it on paper.

It is likely that you will at some point use a computer algebra system, and when you do you will have to enter expressions through a typewriter, so it is well worth the trouble to get used to this notation.

Indicate your understanding of the necessity to understand this notation.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

basically it just states that we need to know the different notations like * is multiplication and the ^ is power to whatever nad / is division and all that
