The problem:
A ball accelerates at 8 cm/s^2 for 3 seconds, starting with velocity 12 cm/s.
• What will be its velocity after the 3 seconds has elapsed?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
a_ave = ‘dv/’dt multiply both sides by ‘dt and get ‘dv = a_ave * ‘dt = 8(cm/s^2) * (3-0)s = 24 cm/s. Since this is ‘dv, we must add this to v_0 to get the velocity after three seconds, 12 cm/s + 24 cm/s = 36 cm/s

• Assuming that acceleration is constant, what will be its average velocity during this interval?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
v_ave =(v_f + v_0)/2 = ((36 cm/s + 24 cm/s)/2) = 60/2 cm/s = 30 cm/s
@&
The initial velocity is 12 cm/s, the final velocity is 36 cm/s.
The average velocity is therefore 24 cm/s, which coincidentally is the same as the change in velocity.

• How far will it travel during this interval?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
‘ds = v_ave * ‘dt = 30 cm/s * (3-0) s = 90 cm
