Response to Assignment 1:

Your first assignment is acceptable in form for a first assignment. However you need to read the directions on the homepage carefully. Those directions are as follows:

You will submit the 'blue' problems plus any other problems indicated for submission.  Submitted problems must be self-documented--you must communicate the problem and its solution in self-contained, if abbreviated, form.

You have submitted all the assigned problems, which shows that you have done a good bit of work, which is good. However, the directions say that you are required to submit only the blue problems and problems specifically indicated for submission. You may of course submit additional problems, but it is not necessary to do so, and it does not affect your grade in one way or the other to do so.

On this assignment you submitted only answers. As the directions state each problem and is solution must be communicated a self-contained form, and must communicate the solution process, not just the answer. This means that I should be able to grade the problem without having to cross-reference the text. You don't have to re-state the entire problem but you do need to telling what your premises are and how you get to your conclusions. It might take you a couple of tries before you understand exactly what to do, but on your next assignment be sure you make the attempt.

See the page sample assignment for an example of good communication on some Precalculus I problems.

I will have to respond to the details of your assignment tomorrow, since I do not have a copy of the textbook at this address.
