Assignment 12

We extend our analysis of the forces acting on an Atwood machine, and on an object moving on an inclined plane.  Analysis of projectile motion is used to infer a velocity.  The work-energy theorem is tested.

In Introductory Problem Set exercises, the qa and the 'seed' question we analyze forces and motion in the context of the Atwood machine and the inclined plane.

Assigned Introductory Problem Sets exercises address the Atwood machine, and also energy changes due forces exerted by rubber bands.

qa questions are related to

The context of the 'seed' problem is a Atwood machine with initial velocity opposite to the direction of the acceleration.

The lab uses the projectile motion of a ball to infer its velocity at the end of a ramp.

In the Class Notes we explore the work-energy theorem for a 'rail' accelerated across a tabletop by a rubber band and coming to rest as a result of friction.

The text assignment continues the analysis of force and acceleration.
