Assignment 08

The experiment Bottle Thermometer uses the bottle-and-tube system to detect small changes in the temperature of the gas in the bottle.

The Introductory Problem Set assignment topics are kinetic theory (the study of how the behavior of the particles of a gas are related to the properties of a confined gas) and thermodynamics (the study of how useful mechanical work can be done by extracting thermal energy from a system).

The text addresses thermodynamics, pressure vs. volume relationships for a confined gas and how the two are connected.

Class Notes are mainly focused on the thermodynamics of the 'bottle engine; terminal velocity is also addressed.
