How to Complete Assignments

You will have been introduced to the use of Open QA and Open Query documents and to the use of the DVDs in your Startup and Orientation, which should have been completed by the end of the first week of the class.  Your text is very well-written and accessible.  Using these resources, you are expected to simply begin working through the course, following the posted schedule.  You are welcome to work ahead of the schedule.

Assignments are numbered 01 - 26.  The suggested pattern of activities for each assignments is as follows:

• Begin by working and submitting the Open QA, which is designed to introduce you to core topics without reference to the text or other sources (you may use other sources if you find this enhances your learning experience, but for most students this would be unnecessary and counterproductive).
• Read your text and work out the assigned problems at the end of the section (all problems numbered in multiples of 3 and all problems numbered in multiples of 5).  The lectures on the DVD's are designed to help clarify the topics the most often confuse students, and you should view them and take notes.  The videos can help clarify the material at any point, so they can be valuable before you read the text, after you have read the text, after you have work the assigned problems, or before a test.  Use them at the times when you find they are most beneficial.  A professional reviewer recently made the following comment about the videos:  "After going through the course, I realized that the videos provided really helped me understand and reinforce the text based questions you had provided as the assignments". 
• Submit the Open Query for the assignment.

Read the text and work on paper every problem at the end of the section which is numbered as a multiple of 3 or 5 (multiples of 3 would be 3, 6, 9, 12, ...; multiples of 5 would be 5, 10, 15,...; you should therefore work problems 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 21, ...).
